Why is it best to work with A Specialized Drapery Cleaning Service?

Navigating New York's competitive cleaning landscape is a constant challenge, especially for those of us dedicated to maintaining the city's custom high-end window treatments. Increasingly carpet and rug cleaners venture into drapery cleaning, offering onsite services at bewilderingly low prices. But let us be clear: there is no magic in their method; it's a far cry from the specialized care your drapery and fabric window treatments receive at NY Drapery Care.

Several recent customers were quoted prices that were half of ours, yet they still chose to clean their window treatments with us. They could immediately tell the difference between working with a niche cleaner of high-end residential fabric window treatments and a carpet or rug specialist taking on the odd drapery cleaning job that falls their way.

The complexities of high-end, custom drapery cleaning require a nuanced approach, not a universal, one-size-fits-all solution as offered by professional carpet and rug cleaners. NY Drapery Care was founded on the principle of providing personalized and professional service using only eco-friendly cleaning solutions. Depending on the specific needs of each customer we will recommend the most appropriate way to  clean their drapery, sheers, Roman shades, and Hunter Douglas products

When you want to professionally clean your fabric window treatments, we certainly hope you will call NY Drapery Care. When it is time to clean your carpets or rugs, please contact a well rated carpet and rug cleaner. Manhattan has many to choose from, but there are certainly standouts with long histories of providing quality services to many of Manhattan’s most exacting customers and interior designers.

Custom Services for the Discerning New Yorker

We recently completed a job for a customer on Park Avenue who had sheer Roman shades that had never been cleaned in the 10 years since they were originally installed. To get a sense of how full of soot and dust the fabric was, imagine if you only cleaned the window sills in your Manhattan apartment every decade!

Sheer Roman shades are notorious for trapping soot and dust and cannot effectively be cleaned onsite using an injection/extraction machine.

We always remove sheer Roman shades for cleaning in our workroom, employing methods specifically tailored to the fabric type, condition, and construction of the shades. For synthetic sheer fabrics, our preferred method is immersion in specially designed cleaning and rinsing tubs, a process far superior to on-site methods that can only remove the top layer of soot while leaving a majority of the embedded soot behind.

However, immersion cleaning is not suitable for all fabrics. Lined fabrics and natural fibers, unless blended with synthetics, require careful consideration. We also inspect for UV damage that may have compromised the fabric's integrity. Delicate or potentially damaged fabrics are dry cleaned by hand on our custom worktables, ensuring the window treatments are cleaned as thoroughly and meticulously as possible while gingerly working around any compromised and weakened areas.

The Right Time to Call NY Drapery Care

Our expertise extends beyond just cleaning. We collaborate closely with customers and interior designers, especially during apartment renovations, to manage the entire process of window treatment care—removal, cleaning, storage, and reinstallation, once your space is ready.

We understand the value of your drapery and treat it with the respect it deserves, avoiding the all-too-common sight of expensive drapery and shades stuffed into garbage bags or tied in knots by well-meaning but misguided contractors. The time to call us is before the renovation work starts.

A Word of Caution About Drapery & Shades Cleaning

For New Yorkers who have waited years to clean their drapery and shades, beware of carpet cleaners offering quick fixes at unbelievably low prices. Proper cleaning of custom window treatments requires the nuanced expertise of a specialist. It is not just about cleaning—it is about preserving the beauty and extending the life of your investment.
